Low Calorie Diet

So you have realized that the core science of losing weight is based upon how many calories you take in and how many calories you burn. Wonderful! Now is the time to learn how to truly make this low calorie diet work.

First off, take away any thoughts you have about being able to “guess” or “eyeball” how many calories are in a food. To test your calorie guessing skills, take a wild crack at how many calories are in that soda you got at lunchtime from McDonalds. Yes, I mean the large. Maybe 150-200? Wrong! A large (32oz) of cola has a whopping 310 calories. 310 calories! This is an entire meal for some. In addition, of course we all love McDonalds fries. What is not to love, right? Well, we super sized the meal, and now we have a large side of fries. If you were shocked by the calories in the soda, brace yourself. A large order of fries from McDonalds, (without ketchup - just good tasty crispy fries) weighs in at 520 calories for a 6oz serving. Is it worth it, probably not.

Do you have to give up fries forever? No. However, in order to be successful on a low calorie diet, you will have to change the way you eat. You will need to realize exactly how many calories are in the food that you eat. For example, if you are to be on a 1200-calorie diet, and you just ate the large fries and drank the large Cola, you are down to only 370 allowable calories for the rest of the day. Is this possible to do? Sure, but are you going to be happy only getting to eat 370 calories for the rest of the day? Probably not. Will you easily succeed if you order larges from McDonalds? I guess you could, but like I said, you will have a very small amount of calories left to eat for the rest of the day. If we become familiar with food labels and the calorie counts in common foods, we can successfully and easily stay within our calorie limit.
